Because of the companies use o f e-technology to manage a portion of their training they are reliant on local bandwidth providers. The software may be uploaded on to a local computer but updates and troubleshooting must be managed over the web or regional training managers.
Part of the initial $30,000 franchise fee and 5% ongoing royalty fee accounts for computer equipment and software. Edible Arrangements has their own computer based accounting system that is unique to their business and accounting needs. An aspect of their technology is internet ready computer systems that are compatible with headquarters for training purposes. Based on my experience in the military and the intelligence community, I suggest Edible Arrangements considered outsourcing their technology management. One company with a great reputation for technology management in the retail spaces is Deloitte. Deloitte offers technology management and consulting in areas such as retail strategy and growth, retail operations and performance improvement, technology strategy and implementation, and talent, HR and organizational change (Deloitte Development LLC., 2013). Outsourcing their technology management allows Edible Arrangements and their franchisees to focus solely on their core competencies, improving their products and potentially reducing their overhead cost in salaries, employee benefits, equipment, training, etc.
