I see a concern with the sharing of information laterally. I know the company uses in house training and mobile regional training managers but I don't mention of sharing of real time sharing of information between store owners/managers. I believe this would greatly improve sales allowing owners to share winner and loser recipes and training options other than going through the training managers. This delays results that could save losses
Other concerns with the current training implementation is that there is no requirement for ongoing attendance. Proactive franchise owners may be able to self-motivate and seek out trainings each quarter or year, but those who are not very easily motivated may not care to be trained. I believe the company as a whole would benefit from having a direct, published training plan for franchise owners as well as their employees. I believe that a company blog spot would benefit as well for the purpose that Michael mentioned. Collaboration and insight from store to store may save time, money and effort. At the very least it will be a good way for franchise owners to create a culture and be there to support one another.
Another avenue Edible Arrangements could consider for ensuring consistent and shared training laterally among their franchises is to host their training on a quality learning management system such as Blackboard. Blackboard through its web-based technology enables collaborative learning, mobile learning, knowledge retention and learning management (Blackboard LLC., 2013). By allowing a known commodity such as Blackboard to develop and execute their learning management system, Edible Arrangements can then focus solely on their core competence – fruit arrangements that “WOW” their customers (Edible Arrangements LLC., 2013).
